M's Blanket

LOL. I am so FIRED for not being done. I think I actually started M's blanket six months ago...I have been working on it at work recently which is why I am almost done, but I ought to be ashamed for taking forever. Luckily, it's getting cold now, so it can be used just as soon as I finish this last brown striping sequence, sew in the ends and do the edging. I also had to make it larger because M has just turned 1 and he's not an infant anymore, so I have made the blanket larger than I would normally make a baby blanket. It would not have been fair to leave it infant-sized on account it has taken me forever to make!

I also have to get started on a new baby boy blanket. Since it's for a newborn that is not here yet, it shouldn't take long, LOL, but my track record is now shot to hell, so we'll see. The colors that were requested were: black, yellow, and green. However, I do not think that's about to happen; I do not even think they make baby yarn in black! :)

Update: M's Blankie

I'm not done. Lol. I have been getting compliments and I love how it looks so far, but I'm not done. It'll be large enough for him to use until he's like 10, I believe, so I'm not rushing through it although I would love to be done and I'm sure his Mom would, too!

OAN: I got a skein each of red, white, and blue for my birthday today, so I'll be getting started on my patriotic afghan. Fun, fun, fun.

M's Blankie

My photogs of the new blanket pattern suck beyond reason because my sexy BB has no flash. This is two days of work, off and on, so I'll have it finished in no time.

I concede...that means I give up

Having started a second, longer baby blanket for M, I am so thoroughly annoyed. Not by the blanket mind you, that's the fun part...I guess it's not even the pattern. It's actually easy-peasy once you get past the foundation chain. Somehow or another, I am either adding too many single crochets or miscounting where to put my 3 single crochets in the next single crochet (this is actually very easy) or I am just not supposed to make this ripple pattern blanket. So very annoying I tell you! With that being said, at this rate, M will be 5 years old before he gets this blanket so I'll stick with what I know and use the Project Linus pattern and the same colors. It'll still be awesome.

I told LaTasha within the last few months that I wanted to make a patriotic afghan or something; red, white, and blue; duh. A ripple pattern would be nice, so I'll just have to look for a new ripple pattern or something...IDK.

M's Blankie

Yes, I should be done by now; however, I am not. I was really loving how it was shaping up even though I had to take some rows out because I was messing up and then I started realizing that the blanket didn't appear to be long enough. UGH! After discussing it with my mother, we decided it needed to be longer so I must take out what I've already done and start over. The only thing I hate about blankets, even little baby ones, is that the foundation chain has to be a certain number of chains especially when you're using a pattern that is very specific and is supposed to look a certain away.

I'll get it done in no time though because I have a lot of time on my hands again. LOL.

It's M's blankie, but I call it Mommy's

LOL. Blue, green, cream, brown and maybe orange...those are the exact colors. I have started with blue, will move on to green, brown, cream , and once I do a row of orange, I plan to ask if Mommy and Daddy like it. But for right now, I believe a row of orange will be just what the doctor ordered...I might do brown before cream though. Artistic license, so sue me!

Another baby girl blanket

One of my line sisters requested a baby blanket for her son that I am really excited about because I like the colors she wants: Blue, Green, Brown, Cream, maybe a little splash of orange. And of course...no pink! My plan is to do a ripple pattern because I believe it'll look great with those colors and because when I first started reading patterns in 2007, either I wasn't following the patterns correctly or I just sucked so the ripples didn't turn out right. I'm more advanced now and look forward to the challenge.

But first, I have leftover pink, white, turquoise, and gray yarn; but mostly pink and white that I want to use now so that I don't have to worry about having to use it later on, since I don't like it! So, my LS' baby blanket is next on my list after this stinky pink one.

I also have some other requests: 3 flower motif scarves and a pink and purple scarf, with maybe some kelly green in it. And some others but we'll get to those later on.

Accessories to the Rescue: 3in Black Earrings

I don't have a large-enough pair of black earrings and I always mean to purchase some, but never get around to it. So last night, as I prepared my ensemble for today, I decided that I not only wanted to wear black earrings, but that I would just go ahead and make 'em.

I didn't follow a pattern and they are, simply, a basic round.

And here we are.Quick and easy peasy. They aren't heavy, despite the way this hanging. This particular ear suffered some trauma a few years ago and the hole is stretched, unfortunately. They're kinda big, but I love a big earring...especially since I'm bald. These are 3 inches and would run for $7.

Baby Blanket Finale

I finished the blanket, complete with shell-edging.

This is the test bear for our baby blankets.

Baby Blanket

I started re-working on a baby girl blanket that I started like approximately 2 months ago before I started working on the very first messenger bag but all I made was like 2 rows of double crochet stitches in turquoise and I got sidetracked and moved on. So, after I made LaTasha's Blue and Gold Surprise Scarf, I decided I wanted a new project even though I had already been working on the third messenger bag but I'm tired of making messenger bags for now and no one in my vicinity needs a scarf for this warm weather, although we are currently backlogged but I went ahead and started making the baby blanket. The colors are pink, white, turquoise/teal and heather grey. I love all the colors together except the pink! The pink looks good with the other colors, I just don't like it pink like that. This notion is funny because I'll wear pink, I just don't like crocheting with it. I actually bought the pink and teal together and cannot figure out why I bought the pink when I think about it. I now think  lilac would have been appropriate. I'm using, for the most part, the Project Linus, pattern, I just made it longer because I want the blanket to be a decent size and not for show. I think I'm just going to donate this one though. Anyway, the next blanket is going to be for a boy baby and I can already see the colors. Like a dark green, light green, gray, white, and blue. The colors'll probably change though.

Blue & Gold Flower Scarf for LaTasha

So, I made a surprise flower scarf for my sister, LaTasha. I don't believe I like making flowers or granny squares or any motif work because I don't think I like the repetition. I believe it took me like 3-4 days to complete the thing. I almost had a fit when it came time to connect all the flowers because I hate sewing things these days, but thinking about it now, there is probably a way to crochet them to each other as I make each flower. Hmmm...we've gotten a request for three different flower scarves for the same person. This is going to be interesting. :)

White + Purple + Orange Earrings (2 inches, $5)

These are very, very easy to do...and quick. Not like the Blue + Gold earrings that are taking me forever and a day to finish! The yarn is so teeny tiny and thing, and I'm just now getting used to crocheting with it.

I was at the dogpark...

...and it was cold. So, I used the cowl/circle scarf to cover my bald head. It worked, mostly. As you can see, though, it's about five (5) inches too short to actually cover my head and neck.

Production Photos: Messenger Bag (1)

Photos from the first messenger bag of the year being made and finalized:

Cowl/Circle Scarf/Thing

So, I'd been seeing a lot of people around here (Greenville) wearing these things and I, unfortunately, had no idea what they were, exactly. Some sort of scarf thingy.

(insert google search here)

I found out that they were called cowls.

(insert another google search)

And I found several patterns.

It ended up being much larger than what it's pictured because I chose to do my own thing and venture away from the pattern. I got many, many, many comments about it (mostly, "that's interesting"). I'm considering adding a few buttons because it's really big and awkward and I'm not immediately sure how to wear it. I may just have to take out a few rows...which I absolutely hate doing.

Finished Messenger Bag: Part fifty-leven

Finally finished the messenger bag; seems like it took AGES. It's not like I didn't have the time though so it's alright, it's just that I abhor projects that drag on. I should probably start documenting when I start and stop, so I'll know how many actual man-hours it took to complete a project. I will probably never do this though because I already know it's a tedious job and who wants added work? I just started working on the 3rd messenger bag; it'll be slightly smaller and probably even better because with each one I've made, I can see how to improve the next.

Messenger Bag...Part IDK

I'm still working on the messenger bag for my sister's co-worker's wife...and I am loving the colors. I decided that on this one I wanted to make a crocheted-liner versus a cloth liner because I like the idea of an all crochet piece. And I think it's much cooler. It's just like a rectangular shaped creme-colored piece but for the life of me, it's taking too long to finish. I'm not sure why...yes, I do. I'm in a different environment and there's always something to be done. The first messenger bag and this one are made out of remnants from previous projects because I am trying to use up all of the yarn I have so I can get new yarn for whichever future projects I am doing. I received a $25 gift card to A.C. Moore and you can bet your ass, I used all of it. Lol. That's like the perfect gift to me. I mean, a Lacoste gift card would be awesome too, but I like the A. C. Moore gift card better...I just love it.

Messenger Bag (continued with pictures)

A messenger bag, though not the one Toya was referring to in the last post. This is our cousin, Erica, modeling her new accessory. The bag turned out really nicely, actually. The lining inside (not pictured, unfortunately) is a totally neat embellishment. And if you look really closely, you'll see that Toya used a multitude of colors and that the the bag is textured. There's also a snap for utility purposes.

And finally, she didn't use a pattern. She did it all from scratch.

Messenger Bag

Many, many months ago, I was asked to make a crochet messenger bag and I didn't get started on it until either late January/early February. It's still not completely finished...all of the crochet aspects are completed but I have some sewing to do. I could actually sew the liner on by hand, but I don't want to do that. Call me lazy. I don't even like sewing the labels on so this is why our new labels are iron on. For the record, I also hate adding fringe, but since the masses like them, I have to appease our audience.

-->On a side note; This woman was coming down the stairs, tripped a little, made this amazing "oh!' face, and then I looked away. LOL.

I am, I suppose, taking a scarf hiatus so I just started working on a new messenger bag. I absolutely love the colors. The first messenger bag and the subsequent one was made/is being made with scrap yarn from previous projects. Quite bad-ass, if I may say(had to get LaTasha's permission to say bad-ass; don't want to offend). I told LaTasha, I just might keep this messenger bag, b/c it's going to be the cutest thing. After I sent her pictures of the beginning of it she said, " fugly" and then after a second picture of just the colors being used, she said, " fuglier".

Last weekend, I gave my cousin a scarf because when I had gone out with my Mom and my Grandmother to go shopping on Sunday, we didn't return with anything for her and she whined for a while, so to shut her up, I asked if she wanted a scarf and she quickly quieted down. She's 22, by the way.

Prices

So, we finally came up with some prices and let me tell you it was hard because we were trying to watch The Town at the same time. Great movie, by the way.

Tash is going to post the prices at some point. She created some new labels for us to use on our creations that are representative of the two of us. This should be really interesting.

I wonder...most people who want something made are friends, and if most of our customers are our friends, do we give a discount for them? Like, for real? I give most of the things I make away for free so I wasn't trying to make money off of crocheting, but it's getting really good to me, so that's why I ask.

Once we get the prices up here, I will start directing people to it, like, these are the prices so do you still want it or not? LOL.
